The Village remains proactive in addressing transportation needs. Romeoville's location continues to be attractive for local development. What is even more attractive, is Romeoville's ongoing commitment to improve existing routes and secure additional modes of transportation for residents and businesses.

I-55 & WEBER ROAD INTERCHANGE

 The reconstruction of the Weber Road and I-55 Interchange has begun. Utilities are being relocated. The contractors have been selected and began earth work and construction of temporary lanes. In addition to the reconstruction of the interchange, the project includes the widening of Weber Road from 135th Street to 119th Street. Substantial completion of this project is expected in 2021. I-55 Improvements at airport road & route 126

A new interchange is coming to Airport Road/IL 126 in a $181.4 million investment from the State of Illinois. The new interchange will facilitate better traffic flow and access for all of northwestern Will County, as well as enhance traffic safety by reducing congestion. A public hearing is anticipated in Fall 2022 to approve the preliminary engineering design of the two interchanges. IDOT has funded the final engineering, land acquisition, and construction of the two interchanges, which is scheduled to take place by 2025. LEWIS UNIVERSITY AIRPORT

In June 2019, it was announced that the Joliet Regional Port District would receive $6 million in state funding to build an air traffic control tower at the Lewis University airport. The tower will not only provide increased safety, but will facilitate expanded use of the airport to grow the regional economy and create jobs. 

PINNACLE DRIVE EXTENSION

As part of a $3 million grant, Pinnacle Drive will be extended south to create an unbroken connection between Renwick Rd. and Airport Rd. A second phase of this project could see that connection stretch up to Taylor Rd. 

ROMEOVILLE METRA STATION

ROUTE 53 IMPROVEMENTS

Route 53 will see improvements as part of a $23.5 billion plan for road maintenance, preservation, and expansion projects across the state of Illinois. Projects include resurfacing and ADA improvements from Joliet Road to Belmont Drive, new shoulders from Murphy Drive south to Renwick Road, and land acquisition for a pedestrian crossing at Normantown Road and Route 53.
